This is a mandatory item and you are required to bring two. You will use these every time  you rappel at Sapper Leader Course. You will also use them for various other events, like helocasting and when you make a poncho raft. You can bring aluminum or steel carabineers. The steel ones are cheaper and heavier and the aluminum ones are more costly and lighter.
