For Sapper Leader Course, this is a mandatory item, and you are required to bring three pair. We recommend three pairs of 72" Coyote Brown Laces. 

For SFAS, this item is optional and you are authorized to bring two pairs. We recommend two pairs of 72" Coyote Brown Laces. 

I never used these, but I know some people did. I also know some people used them as a belt, because their rigger belt was irritating their sides. If you train-up properly that won't be an issue.
