This is an optional item that is nice to have during patrols. It is a good way to quickly check your heading. Coupled with terrain association you can be quick and dangerous on patrols. However, I will caution you to always pull out your lentic compass and double check yourself. These are great for quick and dirty land nav when you have good terrain to associate off of, but they are not precise tools and can steer you wrong if you're not careful.
